The player is Max Jones, who was signed by the Boston Bruins during the off-season to a multi-year, $1 Million AAV deal.
Jones is out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury which isn't necessarily a bad omen, as the Bruins have plenty of prospects who could fill that gap in the lineup.
But this isn't a great start when one of your tough-as-nail forwards is out right when training camp starts.
Jones is known as a grinder, a bottom-six forward who is primarily used to retrieve pucks and play a defensive role on the ice.
While he isn't Brad Marchand or David Pastrnak, the loss will be significant, as once again the Bruins are banged up.
Max Jones has spent his entire NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks who started his career in 2018-2019, in Anaheim playing 30 games that season.
He would then again split time between the Anaheim Ducks, and the AHL's San Diego Gulls and wouldn't make the NHL full-time until the 2020-2021 NHL season.
He played on the wing on Mason McTavish and Troy Terry with the Ducks in 2022-2023, and wouldn't be offered a contract, once he reached RFA status with the Ducks this offseason.
The Bruins will need a player like Jones healthy, especially if they have postseason aspirations when the Florida Panthers are once again one of the top teams in the Atlantic Division.
They may have shed some players, but are running it back with the majority of the same lineup, who won in 2023-2024.
Jones has played 258 NHL games, scoring 62 points( 31 G, 31 A) with 211 PIMs.
