The Boston Bruins are preparing for training camp which is set to begin in the next couple of weeks which has led captain Brad Marchand to give some choice words to potential linemates as an opening has appeared on his line.
Many feel that Marchand will begin the season with Charlie Coyle and with Jake Debrusk heading to the Vancouver Canucks, this has left an opening on their line which appears to have some criteria that needs to be met to play with Marchand.
«The biggest thing is that guys come in and not try to do too much and understand that for our group - the details - are what allows you to have success and stay,» Marchand explained. «And I think first and foremost, they want to see you be able to make plays and take advantage of situations, but you gotta be able to be responsible on both sides of the puck and manage how you play with it.
This line faces some of the best players and will attempt to hold them in check while attempting to push the offence forward. Marchand has made it clear that a high skilled scorer Who doesn't have any attention to detail or defence may not make his line.
«Just because you're a skilled guy doesn't mean you're gonna earn that spot because you can dangle through three guys. You've got to be able to be very responsible defensively, especially playing with Chuck and I where we kind of play both sides of the puck and play against a lot of teams' top line.»
It remains to be seen on who head coach Jim Montgomery will choose for that line or there's a possibility he may look at other players whether it's through Providence or further down the line up to replace Debrusk.
The team is unable to sign any players that are remaining as unrestricted free agents as they continue their negotiations with Jeremy Swayman.
