Former Boston Bruins defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has decided to hang up his skates and retire this year. The Bruins organization sent a heartfelt message to the NHL alumnus.

Former Boston Bruins defenseman decided to retire this season instead of doing time in the Pacific Division. It was rumored that he may end up in Edmonton, Calgary, or Vancouver instead of finding a job in the East.

The former defenseman was sent a heartfelt message congratulating him on his retirement after playing 952 NHL games during his career.

Shattenkirk played the 2023-2024 season with the Bruins, scoring 24 points( 6 G, 18 A).

Before he arrived in Boston, he'd win a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning against the Dallas Stars in 2020.

His veteran leadership and two-way play style as a defenseman made him a valuable addition to any lineup in the NHL.

The New Rochelle, New York-born defenseman was drafted 14th overall in the 1st round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

"After 14 amazing years in the National Hockey League, I have decided to retire," Shattenkirk said in a statement on social media. "I never knew hockey would take me this far. This game has had a dramatic impact in developing me into the man I am today."

He's suited up for the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Anaheim Ducks during his career.

He's scored 484 points( 103 G, 381 A) with a career -29 rating, and 544 PIMs.

"I can proudly say that I have accomplished most of my career goals," Shattenkirk said. "I scored big goals, including a Stanley Cup Final overtime goal, played in All-Star games, represented my country in the Olympics, and won a Stanley Cup!

What makes me even prouder when I reflect back on my career are the countless friendships that I have made along the way. Thank you to all my teammates, it was an honor to play with all of you."

Enjoy your retirement Shatty.
