Boston Bruins Set To Acquire A Player For Free According To Reports From Elliotte Friedman
The Boston Bruins have an opportunity to claim depth forward Daniel Sprong off of waivers from the Seattle Kraken. Should GM Don Sweeney add the former 40+ point forward to the lineup?
The Boston Bruins have needed goal-scoring help all season, and one of those players has just become available as the Seattle Kraken waived him.
Daniel Sprong has spent the last two seasons in Vancouver, and Detroit as a depth forward who has a great shot.
In 2022-2023, and 2023-2024 he had consecutive 40+ point seasons in Seattle and Detroit.
Yet this season he's been unable to crack the full-time lineup in both Vancouver, and Seattle. GM Ron Franchis placed him on waivers today, and he could be an affordable goal-scoring option for the B's.
Sprong signed a one-year contract in Vancouver with an AAV of $975K and could easily fit under the Bruins' salary cap at the moment.
Not to mention, Sprong has been one of the NHL's most efficient scorers in the league.
While he may be in a downturn, a fresh start with a club that could utilize his talents might not hurt.
The Bruins don't have the kind of depth they need in the lineup to outscore opponents, as evidence yesterday by the Oilers shutout of the team.
He may not be known particulary for his back-checking, but if he's placed on a line with players who are defensive in nature, it would allow him the space to work his magic.
This season Sprong has played 19 games, and scored 5 points( 2 G, 3 A), and he hasn't played to the potential we've seen him the last two seasons of his career.
