Over the past couple of days, there has been a lot of speculation that the Boston Bruins were going to reassign Matt Poitras back down to Providence, and an announcement just confirmed that.

With the NHL set to go on a two week break for the Four Nations Faceoff Tournament, there was some talk about Matt Poitras going back to the American Hockey League to take some extra reps and see some games.

Yesterday, a Bruins insider reported that if the Bruins did want to send Poitras back down to the Providence Bruins in the AHL, they would have to do so following their game.

The only problem is that the Bruins would have to place Poitras on waivers. The only player that wouldn't require waivers would be defenseman Michael Callahan.

If the #NHLBruins want to send Matt Poitras to Providence to keep him playing during the 4 Nations, they would have to do it today following the game.

Mike Callahan would be the only other player who could go down without waivers.

Don Sweeney announced a two player roster transaction

Following their game, the multiple Boston Bruins insiders reported that the Bruins have reassigned both Matt Poitras, and Michael Callahan to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League.

Per AHL Transactions dated Feb. 9, 2025, the #NHLBruins have reassigned forward Matthew Poitras and defenseman Michael Callahan to the #AHLBruins.

It has yet to be confirmed by the Boston Bruins yet, so it could just be a paper transaction as Matt Poitras would require waivers to be sent down, but according to the AHL transactions, both players were reassigned last night.
