The Boston Bruins are operating on fumes this season it seems, as top-four defenseman Brandon Carlo has a trouble statistic leak today.
The Boston Bruins and Brandon Carlo have found themselves in a relationship that's lasted almost a decade.
He began his career in the NHL during the 2016-2017 season and has been a mainstay in the Bruins lineup since.
However, with the team beginning the 2024-2025 season in a slump, it seems that the 610-game NHL defense continues to carry into the new year.
Typically, he's never had more than 45 giveaways in a season which was how many turnovers he had in 2018-2019.
Like the rest of the team, they've embraced the dumpster fire it seems, and he's had a total of 74 turnovers in 2024-2025.
That is almost a turnover a game.
For a top-four, shutdown defenseman this is a troubling stat. The team needs him to clog the zone, shut down passing lanes, and create turnovers.
Instead, he's been doing the exact opposite for the B's this year. Which could lead to a scenario where he could find a fresh start in the NHL.
It's no secret that the team has decided to consider retooling the lineup. Could the Bruins consider moving him if his play continues to decline this season?
If the team misses the playoffs, GM Don Sweeney and the team haven't ruled it out but are looking at multiple paths ahead of March.
In 56 games, Carlo's posted only 9 points (1 G, 8 A) and has 74 giveaways. He currently makes $4.1 million AAV, and if the team moved on from him, attaining that kind of cap space would make a retool that much quicker.
While it'd give him a fresh start elsewhere.
