Boston Bruins to reveal centennial all-time team roster
If you were tasked with creating an ultimate lineup of the greatest players in the history of your favorite team, who would you choose? The Boston Bruins, entering their 100th season, are gearing up to reveal their official "All-Time Team" roster.
Set to be unveiled on October 12th, the day after the Opening Night of their Centennial season, the Bruins are preparing to showcase a lineup that includes legends like Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, and Ray Bourque alongside current stars like Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand.
This momentous occasion promises to be a thrilling experience for both Bruins fans and former players.
Cam Neely, the team president and a key figure in the Bruins' history himself, reveals that this idea has been brewing for quite some time.
"We started having loose discussions probably three or four years ago about this being a big deal coming up, and being the first American team to turn 100 (the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs are already past the century mark)," Neely shared. "We began talking about how it's going to look... And getting our alumni involved is a really big part of it. You're talking about 100 years' worth of hockey players. That's the lifeblood of a team, its current and former players."
Neely discloses that a total of 1,055 players have skated or played as goalies for Boston, with 944 forwards and defensemen and 111 goalies.
The initial step involves selecting the "Historic 100," a collection of the most iconic Bruins players, which will add an extra layer of excitement to the celebrations.
From this elite group, a final All-Centennial Team of 20 will be meticulously chosen, representing the pinnacle of Bruins history.
The anticipation is building as fans eagerly await the revelation of this remarkable lineup.
