Boston Bruins top UFA set to be traded according to multiple insiders
NHL Insider Kevin Weekes broke news last week that several NHL teams were interested in Bruins power-forward Trent Frederic.
The news since then has evolved, as Joe Haggerty thinks Frederic could end up fetching a lot of suitors when the trade deadline rolls around.
Size, speed, toughness, character and skill are the qualities drawing attention in the marketplace, according to Weekes, regarding Frederic, who produced a career-high 18 goals and 40 points (and 69 penalty minutes) while averaging 13:45 of ice time across 82 games.
Frederic will be a UFA after his contract expires at age 27 and there's been no discussion that we know of between Don Sweeney and Frederic, in terms of extensions.
Who could use Trent Frederic as a power-forward, who has a scoring touch?
The Colorado Avalanche are missing players like Ross Colton, and Gabriel Landeskog in the lineup. To say they're busted up would be an understatement. Landeskog has been out of the lineup for two years, with the timetable to return has been extended after a "setback"
«Setback could be fair - they just changed his course of attack for a little bit because of the way he was feeling. I don't think there was any one thing that happened or something where he just, like major changes to it. But he's been on the ice and off the ice, there's no timeline ,» Bednar said on the radio show. «It's just a change of course, I wouldn't call it major setback or anything.»
They could fit Frederic under their current cap space, which is sitting at $6.3 Million available to work with.
But a movie like this would mean GM Chris McFarland would have to make a bold move, and it doesn't seem like he's ready to.
But he is surelt collecting 3rd string goalies like it's going out of style!
