Veteran Brad Marchand has never been afraid to speak his mind about how he feels regarding controversial topics in the NHL, and Thursday was no different.
One of the most highly-debated topics regarding the league is how unpopular the current playoff format is becoming for fans and players, too.
Going Back to How it Used to Be
What has been discussed is that the NHL should revert to a Conference-style playoff seeding, or the 1v8 as it's widely known as. On Thursday, Marchand shared what he really feels about the current structure:
''You have the top-3 teams in one division. You have three teams that should be going deep, [two] are playing against each other in the first round. ... So I think we should go back to the one versus eight.''
Marchand isn't the first player to speak out against the Divisional format we see nowadays, as Sidney Crosby recently shared some of the same feelings earlier this season.
The league used the previous Conference-based format for 20 years, from 1993 to 2013.
