David Krejci has officially retired from the NHL
In a significant development that had been anticipated since earlier this month, the retirement of Boston Bruins' center, David Krejci, has been officially confirmed today. The announcement was made through a heartfelt statement shared on the team's official Twitter/X account.
With Krejci's retirement confirmed, the upcoming 2023-24 season marks a notable shift for the Bruins' lineup, as neither Krejci nor Patrice Bergeron will grace the ice in Bruins' jerseys for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
Krejci's retirement announcement, however, came with a subtle distinction he didn't explicitly state that he was bidding farewell to hockey altogether, but rather to his NHL journey. This leaves the door ajar for a potential comeback to the Czech Extraliga, as he did in the 2021-22 season. While such a return isn't guaranteed, it remains within the realm of possibilities.
As the 37-year-old veteran takes his leave from the Bruins for the second time, it's now apparent that a reunion on the ice is no longer on the horizon.
A noteworthy aspect of his legacy is that he departs with the distinction of holding the fourth-highest point tally from the 2004 NHL Draft class. His selection as the 63rd overall pick by the Bruins places him in esteemed company, trailing behind only Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, and Blake Wheeler, who all secured top-five selections.
