Colorado Avalanche close to stealing this player from the Boston Bruins
The Colorado Avalanche only have $4.78 Million of salary cap space available, so they couldn't make many moves this offseason.
However, former Avalanche defenseman, now Bruins d-man Nikita Zadarov spoke with ResponsibleGambling.com about his next landing spot in the NHL. He spoke of how he came to make his next decision in free agency:
«Zadorov's journey to the Bruins wasn't straightforward. «The Bruins were the best option, both in terms of hockey, which is always a priority, and family,» he explained. Despite offers from other teams, including the Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche, Zadorov chose Boston for its winning potential.»
It appears the Colorado Avalanche were in the running for the hard-nosed defenseman, a sought-after free agent but he chose Boston instead.
Which it seems he thinks Boston has a better chance of winning a Stanley Cup than the former 2022 Stanley Cup champs.
The Avalanche instead had to add by depth, because they weren't able to sign Nikita Zadarov, they instead added Erik Brannstrom, Calvin De Haan, Calle Rosen, and Jacob McDonald.
A far cry from the hard-hitting Zadarov who is a prototypical defenseman Bruins fans love, a formidable big-bad-bruin of the 20s.
The Avalanche also have Josh Manson whose play is comparable, but really there's no comparison.
Time has destroyed the Avalanche as a team and it appears their window quickly opened and passed.
Zadarov's Stanley Cup window could be opening in 2024-2025, if the Bruins and Jim Montgomery can hold off some Cats in Florida.
