The now 23-year-old, six-foot, 196-pound winger spent a season playing for Rouyn-Noranda in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Now he is currently with the Province Bruins since turning pro, The Boston Bruins signed him on a three-year, $2.8 million contract that expires on June 30 of this year.
Lauko had 18 goals and 24 assists in 112 games with the AHL Bruins during the contract and then played in his first 23 NHL games, in those games Lauko had four goals and three assists. He even got some playoff experience with the Bruins, earning an assist in three Stanley Cup Playoff games in the seven-game first round series loss to the Florida Panthers.
In a veteran heavy lineup, Lauko did a great job at standing out. Boston Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery called on him in the ladder staged of the season when he was resetting the top 4. He brought speed, skill, and an upbeat energy to a sometimes quiet fourth line.
«If they don't want him anymore, I'll take him on our roster,» an NHL general manager told Boston Hockey Now recently. «I thought that kid was like a Tasmanian Devil against us.»
The thought process here seems to be that the Bruins will greatly consider having Jakub Lauko on the main roster come fall 2023. He has rightfully earned his shot to be a regular on the Bruins' fourth line and will be given a shot in training camp and preseason in September.
