It appeared that Trent Frederic had scored his first goal in his hometown, but Jake DeBrusk got the last touch, and his hilarious reaction after was the best part.
Despite missing significant time with a broken fibula, DeBrusk has continued his breakout season for the Bruins, which was capped off with his 20th of the season in St. Louis.
''I'm a Greaseball.''
Postgame, DeBrusk sat down with the NHL on TNT panel to discuss his team's 4-3 shootout win over the Blues. When former Bruin, Anson Carter, asked him whether he felt like the ''Grinch Who Stole Christmas'' after stealing Frederic's goal in his hometown.
And DeBrusk had one of the best reactions:
''During the intermission the boys were telling me that I'm greasing goals from the hometown guy. You know I wanted 25 [goals], but I would have actually taken the assist on that one. Yeah, I'm a greaseball in front of the net so I owe Freddy a few drinks or something. He had his family and his whole school there, I guess. Yeah, I'm greasy.''
Although DeBrusk did feel bad about taking his teammate's special goal away, Frederic himself shared how being able to play where he grew up and in front of family is most important.
''It means a lot to someone like myself, and guys who go back to the old teams and stuff like that. Even family members probably eat that up even moreso it's it goes a long way.''
Maybe the best part of it all, was TNT analyst Paul Bissonnette telling DeBrusk that he ruined his Spittin' Chiclets co-host's wager by ''greasing'' the goal from Frederic. Check out his interview below:
In just 59 games this season, the 26-year-old has tied his career-high in goals (25) and already surpassed his previous best in assists (23) and points (48).
