Five Teams Seriously Interested In Trading For Bruins Brad Marchand: Per Insider
The Boston Bruins are still trying to fight to keep their playoff hopes alive, but their struggles this season has lead to some speculation regarding Brad Marchand's future with the Bruins organization.
Marchand is playing out the final year of his $49 million contract he signed in 2016.
With his contract set to expire, this has intensified trade rumours surrounding his name, and the Bruins may be considering trading him.
An NHL executive has confirmed with James Murphy of RG.org that the Boston Bruins are getting calls on their captain Brad Marchand. Many are curious on what the team is going to do with the pending unrestricted free agent.
Right now, General Manager Don Sweeney is only listening to the calls, but it is believed that they want a first-round pick and a top prospect if the Bruins are going to move Brad Marchand.
Teams seriously interested in acquiring Boston Bruins captain
According to the recent trade rumours, the Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, and Minnesota Wild are potential suitors.
«I honestly think it will be very situational,» this source opined to RG . «For instance, I keep hearing that Colorado is very interested in him. Well, they don't have a first-round pick this year. Of course, Sweeney could ask for a 2026 pick, or he and [Chris] MacFarland (Avalanche GM) can get creative. Is Marchand, at this point, coming off of surgery and a strange season, even worth a first-round pick right now? I don't know. It's all about the team that wants him and the market the Bruins are able to build.»
It's unlikely that the Edmonton Oilers or Minnesota Wild will be able to acquire Marchand as both teams are pressed right against the $88 million cap.
The Bruins are normally quick to shut down these types of rumours, but no one from management has shut this down which makes it seem like there is a good possibility the Bruins trade Brad Marchand.
