Four Nations Tournament To Put Brad Marchand In A Awkward Situation
The Four Nations Face-Off is set to begin this week on February 12th. Brad Marchand will be wearing Team Canada colors instead of the typical Black and Gold, it should be okay? Right?
Brad Marchand knows what the crowd in Montreal feels about him, as he's generally booed by the Canadiens faithful.
However, this week he will suit up wearing Team Canada colors and sporting a Leaf instead of a spoked-B.
This kind of situation would seem awkward, representing his country in one of his rival's rinks. But now, it appears the Habs fans will have to consider dropping the rivalry to support Marchand who'll be a key piece in Canada's lineup.
«Well, we have not seen it yet, so it may not happen. You know what I mean? They might cheer for the team, but doesn't mean they're cheering for me,» Marchand told reporters Monday, per Parker McLean of Black N' Gold Productions. «It will be great. I think that's the great thing about Canada is when you're cheering for Team Canada everybody comes together and rallies behind that. It will be short-lived, but I'll enjoy it while it last.»
Marchand will be on a deep team, which features the likes of friend Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, Sam Reinhart, Cale Makar, Sidney Crosby, and more NHL superstars.
He should blend in well with that kind of firepower on the team.
But, the irony of all ironies is, while Canadian hockey fans continue to boo the US National Anthem during pre-game, Marchand will show up wearing Canadian colors in TD Garden.
The irony is so thick at the moment.
So, will he be received well south of the border wearing the red, white, and black that are featured on Team Canada's jersey?
Or will American fans jeer, and snarl at the plethora of superstars that will grace the rink that he calls home during the NHL season?
Stranger things have happened,
But will those fans at TD Garden turn on him just because he's on Team Canada? It remains to be seen.
«Maybe we can corrupt the crowd,» Marchand said.
We'll find out. The Four Nations Face-Off takes place from February 12th to the 20th, and will feature Team Canada, Finland, Sweden, and Team USA in a best-on-best tournament.
