The Bruins could look a lot different in forward next season if Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retire, but one well-known insider has a Jets forward filling the gap.

A Reunion in Boston

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, it's not Winnipeg's number one centre Mark Scheifele or all-stars like Kyle Connor or Nikolaj Ehlers, but former Bruin Blake Wheeler linked to Boston.

As per @nhlwatcher on Twitter:

''Marek on 32TP wonders about Blake Wheeler in Philadelphia or Boston since there are questions about Couturier and Bergeron, Marek adds he fits the mold of those two teams.''

Wheeler recorded 16 goals and 39 assists in 72 games for Winnipeg this season after new head coach Rick Bowness stripped the veteran of his six-year-long captaincy.

Wheeler was originally selected fifth overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2004 but signed as a college free agent with Boston in 2008 instead. In 221 games with the Bruins, he registered 50 goals and 60 assists before being shipped to the Atlanta Thrashers midway through the 2010-11 season.

The 36-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract, which pays him $8.25 million annually.

Personally, this move would make zero sense for the Bruins. If Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci do decide to retire, Don Sweeney has to be looking at making his team younger. Wheeler would not be a good choice.
