Patrick Maroon was acquired by the Boston Bruins from the Minnesota Wild at the NHL trade deadline this year for Luke Toporowski and a conditional sixth-round pick in 2026.
It took awhile for Maroon to make his debut with the Bruins as he underwent back surgery on February 7th. He only played a couple of games towards the end of the season before Montgomery decided it was best to rest him for the playoffs.
Maroon is a free agent this year, and during his exit interview with the Boston Bruins he expressed interest in coming back next year as he felt he wasn't really able to show them what he's capable of doing.
The Boston Bruins haven't confirmed anything, but there is a major rumour going around that Maroon will more than likely be offered a similar deal to what the Bruins gave Milan Lucic this year.
Lucic was given a one-year $1 million deal, before getting himself in trouble and going on an indefinite leave from the Boston Bruins, and it's rumoured the Bruins would off Maroon something similar.
The Bruins have a decent amount of cap space heading into free agency, but Don Sweeney has a lot of moves he's going to have to make since the Bruins have a lot of free agents.
As seen on Bruinslatest - New significant details regarding Pat Maroon's extension have emerged
