Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras just became public enemy number one to Toronto Maple Leafs fans after releasing a statement before their game.
Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs are heading to Boston to play the Bruins in a rivalry matchup. The Maple Leafs will be facing a newly looked first line for the Boston Bruins which includes Matthew Poitras, Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle.
Matthew Poitras spoke to reporters ahead of the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, and he had a message for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans.
"I was kind of a Leafs fan growing up so I wanna be my best and beat the Leafs," said Poitras on Saturday.
Matthew Poitras was born in Southern Ontario, and told reporters that most of his friends and family are Toronto Maple Leafs fans, and he assumes they will all be watching the game tonight. Them all being fans of the Leafs seems to be giving Poitras some more fuel to want to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight.
"All my buddies are Leafs fans so I'm sure they will all be watching," admitted Poitras. "All my friends are Leafs fans, whole family friends a lot of them are Leafs fans.
"Knowing friends and family are watching, obviously you wanna go out there and do your best."
Matthew Poitras has the chance to play spoiler tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. Eastern time.
The Boston Bruins have lost three games in a row, and currently have a 3-4-1 record, and will be looking to bounce back in the win column tonight, but it won't be easy as the Maple Leafs will be looking to do the same after dropping two games in a row.
