Scary scene out of the AHL today, as Bruins defenseman Mike Reilly was stretchered off the ice after colliding hard with the end boards.

The Providence Bruins were visiting the Charlotte Checkers Sunday afternoon when the incident occurred. As Reilly was defending the rush, he gets tangled up with an opposing forward and goes in to the boards back first.

As you can see in the following video, Reilly appears to be immediately unconscious. According to reports, the 29-year-old would eventually have to be stretchered off the ice. See below:

Tough Year for the Defenseman

Reilly - who should be an NHL regular - has been the odd-man out on a stack blue line in Boston, but he's made the most of it with the team's affiliate in Providence. In 34 games this season, Reilly has recorded 7 goals and 19 assists for the first place AHL Bruins.

According to Mark Allred of Black N' Gold Hockey, Reilly was aware of his surroundings while he was being taken off the ice:

Reilly is signed with Boston for one more year at $3 million.
