The New York Islanders have not lived up to expectations this season, and injuries have played a big role in that for the Islanders. There isn't much indication in which way the Islanders are going to go at the trade deadline, but an insider has revealed that there is an idea.
Elliotte Friedman has stated that
The New York Islanders currently sit just one point out of a playoff spot, and if that is the case closer to the deadline, the Islanders will not be trading Brock Nelson, who has been highly linked to the Boston Bruins this year.
Nelson was linked to the Bruins earlier in the season, when things weren't going good for the team, but they seem to be turning their season around a bit. Not because the Islanders are playing outstanding hockey, but due to a lot of teams in the Eastern Conference struggling or playing average hockey.
Brock Nelson will be heading to the Four Nations tournament with Team U.S.A. in February. The 33-year-old veteran currently has 10 goals, 9 assists for 19 points in 31 games for the New York Islanders this season.
Nelson would be a great addition for the Bruins, despite his age, he has put up 34+ goals in three consecutive seasons while playing second line minutes on a mid New York Islanders team.
If the Bruins were to acquire Brock Nelson, it's unclear who would be the return, but the Bruins would have to move out a big contract due to Nelson carrying a $6 million AAV, but he is set to become a free agent after this season comes to an end.
