A massive takeaway from the Bruins second embarrassing loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets this season.

The Boston Bruins came back from the holiday break and played some of their worst hockey after getting blown out by the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-2 at Nationwide Arena to begin a home-and-home.

With this loss, the Boston Bruins now sit 19-14-4 on the season, while the Columbus Blue Jackets improved to 15-15-6 on the season.

The Bruins were being outplayed during the first period, and were being outshot by the Blue Jackets 12-5 at the end of it, but the score was 1-1. But the Boston Bruins completely fell apart in the second period.

The Bruins looked completely flat, and horrible in the second period, missing passes, and were unable to sustain any pressure in the offensive zone even though they had 10 shots on Elvis Merzlikins.

Just like the first meeting between the two teams, the Blue Jackets took over the game and never let off the gas.

The Blue Jackets were able to score three goals on the Boston Bruins in 2:47 seconds to give them a 4-1 lead. They would then go on to score another power play god with 46 seconds left in the period.

Dmitri Voronkov scored his second of the game, and the Blue Jackets third power play goal of the game. This was the sixth time this season the Boston Bruins have allowed three goals on the man advantage.

The Blue Jackets stayed out of the box as they only had two penalties called on them during the game. The Bruins were unable to capitalize on these chances like normal, and Merzlikins stood tall for the Blue Jackets stopping all seven shots on the PK.

Joonas Korpisalo played a solid game, but you wouldn't be able to tell by the final score, but the Bruins poor defense and miscues played a big role. Korpisalo finished the game saving 27-of-33 shots he faced. Merzlikins on the other hand played good for the Blue Jackets stopping 23-of-25 shots faced.

Now the Bruins are returning home to face the Blue Jackets once again on Saturday night at TD Garden, and will be looking to get revenge once again. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
