The Boston Bruins have announced the signing of forward Tyler Pitlick to start the NHL season.

The UFA has signed a PTO with the AHL's Providence Bruins, and there is an assumption that Pitlick will either end up in the AHL or NHL eventually.

While he's currently on PTO with the Providence Bruins, he seems to be in demand with other clubs, as after his try-out is done in the AHL, he may wait to see where his cards fall with other clubs afterward.

Pitlick, 32 last appeared with the New York Rangers last season playing 34 games with the original six club scoring 4 points( 1 G, 3 A) with a -6.

In February of 2024, he was later reassigned to the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack, coincidentally enough he notched his first Rangers goal against the Bruins in November 2023.

Throughout his 10-year professional career, he has played 420 NHL games as a journeyman scoring 109 points( 56 G, 53 A).

In addition to his extensive NHL experience, Pitlick has also played in 196 career AHL contests with the Bakersfield Condors and Oklahoma City Barons. The 6'2» forward has recorded 85 career points in the AHL (28 g, 57 a).

Pitlick has also suited up for 31 career Calder Cup Playoff games, all with the Barons. He recorded 13 points (4 g, 9 a) while helping the club reach the Western Conference Final in both 2012 and 2013.

Pitlick was selected in the second round, 31st overall, by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Rangers as an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2023.

Here's his latest scouting report according to Sportsforecaster:

The hard-working forward, now in his 30s, can protect the puck but has limited offensive acumen, which limits the ways a team can use him. He is solid defensively, but not elite. Injuries have also been a major problem for him.

Don Sweeney and company have to know what his capabilities are to consider even signing him to this PTO.

Will he be joining Tyler Johnson in the depth ranks of the Boston Bruins eventually? Likely as a defensive forward and nothing more.
