Recent Report Confirmed Ex-Boston Bruin Brad Marchand Wanted Out Of Boston

On Friday at the NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins made a franchise altering move when General Manager Don Sweeney decided to trade Brad Marchand, and new reports indicate that Marchand wanted out of Boston.
Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers in a last minute trade at the NHL trade deadline. He wasn't the only one traded as some other key pieces like Charlie Coyle, and Brandon Carlo were also moved at the deadline.
Marchand being traded took the NHL by surprise. There were a lot of rumours that a trade was heating up involving the former Bruins captain, but many did not believe a trade was going to take place.
Brad Marchand ended up going to one of the Bruins biggest rivals in the Florida Panthers.
A report came out not long after the trade deadline that the Boston Bruins offered Brad Marchand a two-year, $3 million deal, but Marchand declined it.
The Bruins offered Brad Marchand a two-year extension worth $3M AAV before he was traded, per @Buccigross.
Brad Marchand Reportedly Wanted Out Of Boston
According to Emily Kaplan the Boston Bruins did not want to trade Brad Marchand, and even had a three-year contract extension on the table for him back in February, but Marchand reportedly also declined that, indicating that he wanted out of Boston.
Kaplan also stated that because Marchand declined both contract extensions, Don Sweeney worked with Marchand, and decided to trade him to a team that Marchand wanted to go to.
«The Bruins are always going to view Brad Marchand as family,» ESPN's Emily Kaplan reported on Saturday. «He's a legacy player, he's going to be honored as such at a later date, but this was a really difficult situation for all parties involved (Boston) did work with him to ensure that he went to a preferred destination.»
Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthers will make their way to TD Garden for a game on Tuesday, but with Marchand being out with an injury, it's unlikely he will suit up for the game.
