According to Frank Seravalli to the Daily Faceoff, Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman's demand for $10 million a year appears to be unfounded as he mentioned on an interview with SN960 The Fan's Big Show.

«I think that's a pretty sizeable gap that hasn't been bridged yet and with the trade of Linus Ullmark, it's obvious that Swayman is such a big part of what the Bruins' future looks like and the stability of their core because the goaltending has been the backbone of that team,» Seravalli said. «But if you have a philosophical difference on what you think your goaltender should make, and if you thought that with the numbers he's posted that he was going to be in that range, I can understand why there's been a disconnect there.»

For the past few days, there has been an notion that Swayman is asking for a $10 million per year with players agent Lewis Gross as Swayman took a large step forward in his career after showing the Bruins and head coach Jim Montgomery that he was the goaltender that could lead the Bruins to a Stanley Cup.

It's becoming clear that the Bruins ownership led by the Jacobs family does not feel that they would be willing to pay over $8.5 million per year for a goaltender as many other teams throughout the NHL have won Cups or have gone on long playoff runs with goaltenders for far less money.

This theory has been around for several years as some teams feel pain big dollars for a big goaltender is worth it an others feel that just having your goaltender stop one more shot than the other is enough.

If both parties are over $2,000,000 apart, it's likely Swayman will sit out for the first part of the year as both will continue to negotiate and see if they can come to an actual number. The 26-year-old netminder had a record of 25-10-8 through 43 starts and had a 9.16 save percentage along with a 2.53 goal against with three shutouts.
