In a familiar turn of events, winger Fabian Lysell finds himself once again on the outside looking in as the Boston Bruins prepare for the upcoming season. This marks the third consecutive year that Lysell has not made the opening night roster.

The official announcement came from the Boston Bruins last Tuesday when they made the decision to assign the 20-year-old winger, along with defenseman Mike Callahan, to the Providence Bruins training camp. Alongside this move, the Bruins took action by placing forward Anthony Richard and defensemen Alec Regula, Dan Renouf, Reilly Walsh, and Parker Wotherspoon on waivers for the purpose of reassignment.

The signs of Fabian Lysell's exclusion had become increasingly apparent as Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery addressed his performance in training camp and the preseason. Montgomery's assessment was straightforward, with no sugar-coating.

Montgomery's words were direct:

"I think Lysell's had moments where he's been good. He's had moments where he's struggled, just as far as he's drafted to be a skilled offensive player, and in order to be a skilled offensive player, you've got to produce, and we haven't seen the production yet."

This candid evaluation serves as a reality check for Lysell, who had shown promise in his initial Bruins training camp but has encountered challenges in subsequent outings. While he did have a respectable season last year with 14 goals and 23 assists in 54 games with the Providence Bruins, Lysell faces the task of making a strong impression if he hopes to secure his NHL debut this season.
