This past weekend following a game Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand denied a report that Elliotte Friedman made stating that he was close to signing an extension with the Boston Bruins.
Elliotte Friedman stated that the Boston Bruins and Brad Marchand were working on a three-year contract extension but Brad Marchand would come out and say it was "false".
Brad Marchand went on to say that if he was going to sign a three-year contract extension with the Boston Bruins it would've already happened by now.
Boston Hockey Now's Andrew Fantucchio thinks that the Boston Bruins and Marchand are still in contract talks, but after denying Elliotte Friedman's report, many reporters believe the two sides are having a problem agreeing on term.
Boston is known for having a hard time signing their players, just look at Jeremy Swayman's situation that dragged on for months. But it was pointed out that the Bruins may just not be in a hurry to get a deal done with their captain at this point in time.
This is Brad Marchand's final year of his eight-year deal he signed back in 2017, which had a annual value of $6.125 million per year, and if a contract is not signed by July 1st, Marchand will officially be a free agent for the first time in his career.
Brad Marchand has not had a great year so far putting up just one goal and six points in the Bruins first ten games, but the Bruins are hoping he can step up to the plate and be a good leader, and help turn things around for the team as they haven't been great so far this year.
