With all the drama surrounding the Jeremy Swayman contract extension, general manager Don Sweeney and his team may be facing a goalie duel as Bruins prospect goaltender Brandon Bussi is ready for the NHL who could pose a threat to Joonas Korpisalo.

Providence Bruins head coach Ryan Mougenel praised his goaltender as it appears he has taken his summer seriously and has done extensive work to his physical appearance, lost weight and will challenge for the backup role behind Swayman.

He also stressed that his goaltender may need to trust the process as Korpisalo is a capable goaltender and could have a bounce back year having played with a better defensive team. Korpisalo came over from the Ottawa Senators after being traded for former Vezina winner Linus Ullmark.

Several NHL teams have been carrying three goaltenders including the Bruins archrival the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's unlikely the Bruins will do this as they have worked through a tandem system over the past couple of years with Ullmark and Swayman were touted as one of the best tandems in the NHL. This could put one goalie will need to be placed on waivers.

It's safe to say the Bruins are looking forward to this competition as the team will need some clarity in net especially if their number one goaltender cannot sign a contract prior to the start of the season.
