It was just confirmed today that Trevor Zegras has underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right new according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet, and he is projected to be out for roughly six weeks.
Before going for surgery, Zegras missed three games for the Ducks with this injury after suffering it on December 4th against the Vegas Golden Knights on an awkward play.
Following a faceoff in the defensive zone, the 23-year-old fell awkwardly and immediately knew something was wrong as he waved to the bench right after it happened. After leaving the game, Zegras would not return.
Here is the clip:
According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, Zegras did not want to get surgery and ended up getting a second opinion on how to move forward with his injury, but decided to get the surgery anyways. Having surgery will make Zegras miss more time, but he is at a smaller chance of re-injuring it later down the line.
There are reports that Zegras is set to return to the lineup just before the NHL pauses due to the Four Nations tournament set to take place in February according to Eric Stephens of the Athletic.
Things were just starting to go Zegras' way, as he was playing better, and finally fitting into the role of a two-way player, but this is going to be a major set back for him, and could hurt his trade value.
The Boston Bruins have been linked to the star forward for some time now by multiple insiders around the league, but after having this injury the Bruins may opt to look elsewhere.
Do you think the Boston Bruins should still be interested in trading for Trevor Zegras?
