NHL Hands Out A Suspension For Dirty Cross-Check To The Head
The Calgary Flames have faced an unexpected challenging start to the season, entering Saturday's game with a 2-7-1 record.
Their encounter with the Seattle Kraken on Hockey Night in Canada aimed to reverse their fortunes.
However, the game took a grim turn for the Flames due to an incident involving forward Andrew Mangiapane. Midway through the first period, Mangiapane attempted a shot on the Kraken net, which was blocked by Jared McCann.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Mangiapane cross-checked McCann in the back of the neck after trying to poke at the puck under him.
Mangiapane received a five-minute major penalty for cross-checking, a match penalty, and ejection from the game.
Because he was assessed a match penalty, Mangiapane will be receiving an automatic suspension, pending review from the Department of Player Safety.
