The early-season clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins is reigniting the flames of their enduring rivalry.
This intensification was triggered by an unfortunate injury to Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren, following a collision with the notorious Bruins pest, Brad Marchand, during their Thursday encounter.

Ryan Reaves, the Maple Leafs' enforcer, has now chimed in, further stoking the rivalry. Reaves had a pointed message for Marchand:

"First of all, 'Get away from the bench,'" he declared on Saturday. "Second of all, I guess he was lucky I wasn't out on the ice with him. Unfortunately, they had the last change, so I didn't get any shifts against him."

Reaves was signed to a three-year deal this summer with the specific intention of handling such situations for the Maple Leafs.

However, despite adding more toughness to their roster in the offseason, many fans were left disappointed by the response from both Reaves and the rest of the Maple Leafs to Liljegren's injury.

There's little doubt that the Maple Leafs will be seeking some measure of retribution when they next face Marchand and the Bruins. Fans will have to wait for this showdown, scheduled for December 2nd, to witness the next chapter in this storied rivalry.
