After a disappointing season that saw the Calgary Flames miss the playoffs, veteran Milan Lucic now sees himself without an NHL contract.
Lucic, 35, will be a UFA on July 1st for the first time since the summer of 2016, when he signed a massive seven-year, $42 million deal with the Edmonton Oilers. Reuniting with GM Peter Chiarelli from their days in Boston.
What's Next For Looch?
During his exit interviews on Friday afternoon, Lucic was asked what his future plans in hockey are, if any. To which the veteran shared his desire to keep playing, despite how hard it was for him personally throughout his latest contract:
''To be honest I'm really happy this contract is over because of the heaviness of it. It was hard to deal with at times.''
'I have to weigh out my options and see who's interested.''
Looch, as he's known as, struggled with the Flames this season, as the veteran recorded just 7 goals and 12 assists in 77 games. Easily the worst season statistically of his 16-year career.
Lucic could still be a valuable asset to an NHL team, at or near league minimum, of course. Perhaps a reunion with the Bruins? Or possibly his hometown Vancouver Canucks to finish his amazing career.
What are your thoughts?
