In the waning moments of what seemed like a secured win for the Canadiens against the Islanders, the game took a controversial turn.

With an 3-1 lead and eight minutes remaining in the 3rd period, Brendan Gallagher delivered a questionable hit on Adam Pelech. The hit, deemed unnecessary and dirty, targeted Pelech's head even after he no longer possessed the puck.

This incident adds to a concerning pattern for Gallagher, who has faced penalties late in games before. As of now, the Islanders have capitalized on the ensuing major penalty, scoring two goals to level the game at 3-3, intensifying the impact of Gallagher's actions.

The Canadiens would go on to beat the Islanders 4-3 in regulation time.
