Montreal Canadiens confirm Arber Xhekaj's season is done
Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Arber Xhekaj faces an early end to his season as he prepares for left shoulder surgery slated for Wednesday (April 10).
While this news comes as a blow to the team, there's a glimmer of hope in their announcement that Xhekaj should be back in action for the start of the 2024-25 season.
The 23-year-old blue-liner has been sidelined for the Canadiens' past two games due to his lingering injury. Initially labeled as an upper-body issue, the severity of Xhekaj's condition necessitated further evaluation, culminating in the decision for surgery.
Though the timing is unfortunate, it aligns with the Canadiens' current standing outside playoff contention. With little left to play for this season, the focus shifts to Xhekaj's rehabilitation and ensuring his readiness for the upcoming campaign.
Xhekaj done for the season
Throughout his 44 games this season, Xhekaj has made significant contributions to the Canadiens, tallying four goals, 10 points, and boasting a plus-6 rating. While his absence will be felt, the team remains optimistic about his recovery and eagerly anticipates his return to the ice at full strength next season.
