Former Leaf Doesn't Hold Back When Talking About The Organization
During the summer, many Toronto fans were left disheartened upon learning that veteran forward Ryan O'Reilly wouldn't be returning to the Maple Leafs, despite his impressive playoff performance. This naturally sparked curiosity about his reasons for departure, with speculations circulating about the Toronto market's intensity.
However, on a recent Saturday, as O'Reilly prepared to face the Maple Leafs as a member of the Nashville Predators, he candidly acknowledged that the Toronto market did play a role, while also downplaying its significance.
"I don't think as much as people thought," O'Reilly admitted, adding, "I think it got blown out of proportion a little bit. There were many other factors that influenced my decision."
He went on to explain that he appreciates the ability to have a quieter life in Nashville, where he can fly under the radar and enjoy time with his family, especially his kids, at this stage in his career.
While O'Reilly openly acknowledged the Toronto market's influence on his decision, he also highlighted that it's a factor that makes playing in Toronto special, citing the passion, extensive media coverage, and the city's status as the Mecca of hockey.
Although O'Reilly hinted at other considerations in his decision, he didn't delve into specifics. However, his admission about the Toronto market's impact raises questions about the extent to which it influenced his choice.
