Vsevolod Malkov was just a regular 14-year-old enrolled in SKA St. Petersburg, KHL Training Program. The young player loved hockey and playing the sport as often as possible.

Tragically at practice on Thursday, Malkov was struck in the chest with a puck, which ultimately led to his passing. Sport24.ru has reported that, Vsevolod Malkov was struck in the heart area causing the damage.

As per @puckempire on Instagram:

At a training session for the 2008-SKA team, Vsevolod Malkov (not pictured) was hit in the chest near his heart with a slapshot.

He collapsed on the ice and ambulance was called. They were able to get his heart beating again, but he succumbed to his injuries.

He was diagnosed as having a closed chest injury, a contusion of the heart and a contusion to the lung.

He was just 14-years old.

A criminal investigation had been opened into the incident, but no charges are expected. Vsevolod's father shared the following:

''I do not see any culprits in this, to blame someone, I think, makes no sense. This was purely an accident. It was a common practice, they were playing a minority: five to attack, four to defend. There was a shot, a defenseman's flick from the blue line, as I was told, I was not present, because parents are not allowed to practice. The puck hit the heart area and there was a cardiac arrest. Further there was resuscitation, but, unfortunately, without success.''

The hockey school has offered to pay for funeral services and support for the family.
