Patrice Bergeron signed a one-year,$2.5 million contract extension with the Bruins this summer, taking a team-friendly discount to stay in Boston for the 19th consecutive season.

One comment the captain made says a lot about the person and the athlete that Bergeron is:

''To me, hockey is all about the team's success and ultimately winning. That's what makes the difference between a good career and a great career.''

'I've made more money than I ever thought I would in hockey. Leaving a few [dollars] on the table to make sure you're a good team, and make sure you're a competitive team for years to come is what I've wanted to do. That's something that started here before me.''

It should be mentioned that Bergeron has been ''underpaid'' his entire career, as he's never made more than $6.8 million per season, even though he's been one of the best all-around players in the NHL for a long time.

Per the Athletic, Bergeron plays well above his pay grade, as he currently has a surplus of $9.8 million.

Bergeron, 37, has 17 goals and 19 assists in 45 games.
