Colby Cave, was originally undrafted, but ended up earning himself a contract with the Boston Bruins.
The Boston Bruins announced in 2018 that they signed Colby Cave to a 2-year, 2-way contract with an AAV of $675,000.
Cave would end up making his debut in the NHL during the 2017-2018 season where he would just play three games with the Boston Bruins.
The following season, Cave would get a call up from the Bruins once again and would go on to score his first NHL goal, along with 4 assists for 5 points in 20 games.
The Edmonton Oilers would end up claiming Cave off of waivers from the Boston Bruins during the 2018-19 season. He would play 33 games with the Oilers the rest of the 2018-19 season, and then played 11 games for them in the 2019-20 season before tragically passing away.
On April 11th, 2020 the NHL announced that Colby Cave ended up passing away four days after he had surgery to remove a colloid cyst from his brain. He was placed in a medically induced coma and tragically passed away.
The Boston Bruins organization has recognized him every year since he has passed away.
Today, an emotional and heartbreaking post was made on social media from Colby Cave's wife, Emily.
Emily posted a couple pictures that featured Colby along with other Bruins like Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak. In the post she stated that she is forever proud of everything he accomplished, and that he is very missed.
