With the Boston Bruins being outside of a playoff spot as of right now, there has been a lot of speculation about players getting traded, and now a trade has emerged that would send defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Considering the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs are divisional rivals, you often don't see them combine for trades, but according to a report, the Maple Leafs have shown a lot of interest in Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo.

Earlier in the year, Carlo was involved in trade rumours that would send him to the New York Rangers along with Beecher and a 2nd-round draft pick in return for Matt Rempe, and Jacob Trouba but the trade never materialized.

Sadly, a bogus NHL trade rumor involving the #NHLBruins and #NYR is being talked about as if it's real. It's not.

Not happening. Move along.

There have been reports from multiple insiders suggesting the Maple Leafs are heavily looking for a right-shot defenseman before the March 7th trade deadline.

According to The Athletics Jonas Siegel and NHL insider Chris Johnston , the Maple Leafs have been linked to Brandon Carlo, David Savard, and Jamie Oleksiak.

Top 5 Best Defenseman Fits the Maple Leafs Could Trade for at the Deadline, per @reporterchris , @jonassiegel:

5. Connor Murphy (Chicago)
4. David Savard (Montreal)
3. Jamie Oleksiak (Seattle)
2. Brandon Carlo (Boston)
1. Luke Schenn (Nashville)

Chris Johnston reported that although the Leafs have improved their defensive core, "they still have some question marks" and would like to add another physical, shutdown defenseman.

There is trouble believing that the Boston Bruins would trade Brandon Carlo, but he has had a down year this year, and it might be the perfect time to move on from him before he starts regressing.

With the possibility of the Bruins re-tooling this could open the door for them to make a trade involving Brandon Carlo depending on what the return is.

Carlo has appeared in 55 games this season, scoring 1 goal, eight assists for 9 points, and still has two years left on his contract at $4.1 million.

It's still unclear what direction the Bruins are going to take at the NHL trade deadline, but there is a possibility the Bruins move on from Carlo this year.
