Boston Bruins announce awesome new youth program honouring Willie O'Ree

As Bs fans know, Willie O'Ree is an NHL legend and trailblazer.

O'Ree was the first black player in the NHL who played 45 career games with the Boston Bruins, recording 4 goals and 10 assists. The franchise retired O'Ree's number 22 on February 18th, 2022.

The Bruins announced a brand new initiative honouring O'Ree for the youth of Boston and area on Sunday morning. The club released this statement:

"The Boston Bruins have partnered with SCORE Boston and the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department to host seven local Willie O'Ree Street Hockey Clinics beginning on Friday, July 8, at East Boston Memorial Stadium."

"The clinics will run Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be open to any youth hockey players who wish to participate, regardless of enrollment in SCORE Boston programs. The clinics will focus on the fundamentals of hockey and will conclude with a scrimmage played by all participants."

Monday, July 11th to Friday, July 15th - South Boston Christopher Lee Playground (775 E 1st Street, South Boston, MA, 02127)

Monday, July 18th to Friday, July 22nd - Mattapan Hunt Almont Playground (39 Almont Street, Mattapan, MA, 02126)

Monday, July 25th to Friday, July 29th - Jamaica Plain White Stadium (450 Walnut Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130)

Monday, August 1st to Friday, August 5th - Dorchester Garvey Playground (340 Neponset Avenue, Dorchester, MA, 02122)

Monday, August 8th to Friday, August 12th - TBD
