Another long-time NHLer and living legend has officially announced his retirement from the league.

Patrick Marleau announced his retirement from the NHL in an official press conference with the San Jose Sharks Tuesday morning.

Born and raised in small-town Aneroid, Saskatchewan, Canada, Marleau was drafted second overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and spent most of his NHL career with the franchise. He became the all-time Sharks' leader in goals (518), shorthanded goals (170, powerplay goals (161), points (1,102), shots (3,899), and games played (1,551).

Marleau is the all-time NHL leader in games played with 1,779 total with San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins. He is also the fourth player in NHL history to record 900 consecutive games played, reaching the mark one game after breaking the overall games played record.

Marleau also played in 175 career playoff games and collected 72 goals and 55 assists for 127 points. Unfortunately, he was never able to win the Stanley Cup during his long and successful career, proving how tough it truly is to hoist the hardest trophy to win in all sports. The closest Marleau came was losing to Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final.

However, Marleau has won an Olympic Gold Medal for Canada twice; in 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi, Russia.

Congrats on the long and very successful career!
