Former Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke to the media Thursday morning for the first time as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Cassidy was hired by the Golden Knights on Tuesday, just over a week after being relieved of his duties by the Bruins. He made sure to throw in a joke about his "long unemployment":

Cassidy discussed how he's excited to be joining the Golden Knights and how this isn't a "get back" against his former club by any means.

"I got let go. This is not a revenge tour or something like that. I just want to prove to myself that I can win it in the postseason. You don't dwell on it every day, but it's in the back of your mind when you've been that close before."

"I want my name on the Stanley Cup. I believe this team has the ability to do that. I believe if we can take care of business, everything will fall into place."

Bruce Cassidy let it be known that Boston was his childhood favourite team, and being the head coach for the franchise was a dream come true. He noted how being fired was tough, but it's part of the job.

"You lick your wounds and console your children, and then the phone started ringing for me. Hockey-wise (Vegas) was a no-brainer for me. I couldn't be more excited."

One of the reasons Cassidy was reportedly fired was his handling of younger players within the organization.

"I want to start by thanking Bill Foley, Kelly McCrimmon and George McPhee for putting their trust in me. It's a privilege and an honour to be a head coach in the National Hockey League, so I'm very grateful for the opportunity here in Vegas."

Good luck in Vegas, Coach!
