The Boston Bruins will be officially joining the handful of NHL teams who will have a new head coach behind their bench for the 2022-23 NHL Season, as they announced the termination of Bruce Cassidy earlier this week.
Cassidy started with the Bruins in February 2017 and left with a total record of 245-108-46 in 399 games played for a .694 winning percentage. He also led Boston to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019 but lost to the St. Louis Blues in seven games. He never missed the playoffs with the club, and still had one year left on his contract.
The firing makes no sense unless the Boston Bruins are starting a rebuild because his numbers with the club were terrific, especially at five-on-five:
With those numbers, don't be surprised to see Cassidy almost immediately get new employment.
