If you've been following hockey for quite some time, then you already know that Patrice Bergeron is the top defensive forward in the game.
Period.
In an era where statistics and analytics are constantly being analyzed, the Bruins captain has always had the stats to back it up.
There's no question Bergy rhymes with Selke at this point. The centerman has seen his name engraved on the trophy four times already; in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
While he continues to produce offensively year in and year out, Bergeron's work on the defensive side of the puck is unmatched.
He's in his 18th season with the B's and has finished all but one campaign with a +/- ratio above zero. He's also finished every year with a faceoff percentage above 50%, aside from his rookie campaign (49.36%).
Clutch enough? Not quite. The Bruins captain is recently enjoyed one of the best defensive seasons of his career, meaning he could be well on his way to earning career Selke Trophy number five in the upcoming weeks.
