Martin Brodeur, the revered goaltender of the Devils, recently shared his perspective on modern goaltenders in a candid interview.

As the current VP of hockey operations for the New Jersey Devils, Brodeur expressed his dissent towards what he perceives as excessive coddling of today's goalies.

He contends that contemporary goaltenders are often shielded from rigorous workloads due to fears of potential injuries.

Brodeur advocates for a return to the traditional approach, where goalies play a significant portion of the season, akin to other team members.

"I think we baby our goalies," the New Jersey Devils executive vice president of hockey operations told The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday. "I see it. I'm part of it. It's like, my goalie coach will say, 'He's played five games the past eight days ' I'm like, 'So?'"- Brodeur

In his discussion with The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Brodeur criticized the prevalent trend of managing goaltenders with a rotational 1A and 1B system. He firmly advocates for a single designated starter who should ideally feature in 65-70 games per season.

Brodeur's remarks are particularly resonant given his illustrious career, during which he frequently played in at least 70 games across 22 seasons. His stance underscores a departure from contemporary strategies, reflecting a nostalgic yearning for the bygone era of goaltending.
