Sad news for Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm and his family, as their home in Gamla Lerberget, Sweden, caught on fire Monday afternoon and was destroyed.

It's reported that it took emergency services several hours to put out the fire that broke out on Monday afternoon, and it lasted into the evening to get the flames under control.

Lindholm says that he found out about the fire via the villa's alarm system; he was, however, in good spirits as he and his family are okay:

''A house is a house, it is only material, and no one has been injured.''

Swedish sports newspaper, Sportbladet also reported that police have initially started an investigation into attempted arson, but it could also be that the fire started from a battery charger that was plugged in.

Both floors of the completely renovated villa-style house are entirely destroyed, and only the basement can be saved.

Lindholm also stated the Bruins have reached out as support:

''I don't know anything about the reasons and don't want to make a big deal out of it. The main thing for me is that no one has been hurt; my father and mother live nearby.

I am grateful for all the support I have received; the Boston Bruins have reached out and offered their help. Those are things that mean something in a situation like this.''

The Bruins defenseman said he was training in Rogle when he received the tragic news about his summer home:

''I am going to Paris now for the annual NHL day that is organized in Europe, and then it will be Sweden again for the last week or so before I travel to the USA and Boston.''
