And by this year, we mean since the calendar flipped to 2022.
There's no question Jeremy Swayman has been a revelation for the Bruins this season. However, ever since he was called back to Boston on January 2 following Tuukka Rask's retirement, the first-year netminder has turned the B's into one the NHL's best teams.
Swayman has started 17 games since the new year and owns a stellar 12-4-1 record in those outings.
Prior to last night's meltdown against the Maple Leafs, Swayman ranked first among NHL goaltenders who have played at least 10 games since January 1 with a 1.92 goals against average.
Over that same time span, he ranked third in the league with an incredible .931% save percentage.
He's also posted two shutouts in 2022, one being a 34-save outing against the solid L.A. Kings offense, the other being a 30-save blank of the Ottawa Senators.
So while he did get pulled after forty minutes last night, let's not forget just how good Jeremy Swayman has been for the B's as of late.
He might be giving Boston fans hope that this year's squad has a legitimate chance, but yesterday was a quick reminder that he's still just a rookie netminder who'll go through ups and downs.
