We're getting close to the part of an NHL season when we know which teams probably aren't making playoffs and which ones are in contention.
And you know what that means! Trades.
However, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, general managers across the league have been trying hard to make trades. There's been a significant amount of struggle to get trades done in the NHL, especially since the pandemic shutdown and the flat cap.
Friedman shared what one NHL GM shared with him:
''We'd all like to make a bleeping trade ... but there's no room to do it.''
This has forced teams to get creative, like involving third teams to dump salaries or sending extra pieces for retention. Half the league is currently at, or very near, the cap ceiling, and making trades has become even more difficult and expensive.
