Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman made waves in his rookie season in the NHL, thanks to his stellar play. The youngster also stood out as the latest player from Alaska to find success in the NHL.
Despite having one of the smallest populations in America, the state of Alaska has managed to produce some high quality NHLers over the years. The names of Scott Gomez, Brandon Dubinsky and former Bruins draft pick Nate Thompson come to mind when it comes to some of the most successful Alaskans.
In an article by NHL.com back in February, the 23-year-old mentioned how proud he was of his origins.
''I was so fortunate to grow up in Alaska. The hockey community there is something but just the community in general it's just an incredible place to live and be a part of that tight knit really incredible community. The things I've gotten to do there people dream to do. It's just cool to have that all up in my backyard.''
A native of Anchorage, the Bruins netminder grew up loving the outdoors and has seemingly been catching fish for as long as he has been catching pucks!
