The Boston Bruins and general manager DonSweeney got his two restricted free agents locked up and now his full roster is ready to roll.
However Sweeney's work isn't finished as he's got one big name who could hit the open market next summer in Torey Krug.
Krug has been vocal about wanting to stay in Boston but has also made it clear he wants a deal worth fair market value.
"I've played on one-year deals a lot. I've had to prove myself a lot. I think I've built a resume to where I see other guys sign early and get their deals out of the way, I feel like I've built that resume and the respect level within this locker room to be one of those guys. I would love to get it off my mind. It's not going to hinder my play at all. I've shown time and time again I've been able to be a professional and show up when the time is needed. Just more for my family's sake and wondering where we're going to be for a while."
While Krug has said he could be willing to take a small hometown discount, he's also trying to look out for his family and wants a long term deal worth market value.
"I'm no dummy," Krug told TheAthletic. "I understand that what I do is a commodity in this league. I'm sure there's 30 other teams that would love to fit me in somewhere, especially after this last playoff run. I've proven I can play valuable minutes against top-line players. I don't think I'm too worried about having options or anything next year. My focus is on the here and now with the Boston Bruins and trying to fit in and be a part of it." "I feel like there's certain guys around the league that have the ability to sign extensions with their current club early, whether it's a year earlier or before that UFA season begins," Krug said. "I feel like I have the respect of my teammates and hopefully the respect of management that I can be one of those guys. Just play with a clear mind and move on."
