Some good news to pass along today!

Gary Bettman has announced that the NHL and NHL Players' Association (NHLPA) are moving forward with plans for a World Cup of Hockey to take place in February 2024, which confirms earlier reports of the possible tournament.

As per Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly:

''We're moving full steam ahead, and that means we're continuing to have regular meetings.''

''We're out in market already moving ahead with plans for a February 2024 World Cup ... We're still on schedule.''

Daly also noted of an interesting idea of having some games in other countries:

''We still want to play one pool in Europe, a preliminary round pool in Europe and a preliminary round pool in North America and move the semifinals and the final to a different city in North America likely.''

''I think that short list would universally encompass more traditional hockey markets.''

This will be the first World Cup in over eight years.

All indications are that Team North America and Team Europe will not be back in 2024. A decision that is difficult to understand.

As Marco Normandin reports, the eight teams that should participate would be Canada, the United States, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland as well as Slovakia (Russia to be decided).

Nothing is confirmed teams-wise for the moment. More details will follow!
